QUIZ
Now that you have put your knowledge of ICT to the test, from UIE we show you that this term not only refers to the latest generation mobiles , but that they go much further. Thanks to ICT, companies and professionals of all kinds can process and exchange information more quickly and reliably ; which contributes to learning and development in any field.
Do you know what Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are?
ICT are the acronyms that correspond to Information and Communication Technologies . Although there is no precise definition of this term, it could be considered as the existing technological development in these fields.
Actually, the area of Information and Communication is in itself quite broad (it is not only about telecommunications, we could also refer to computer advances, such as , Cloud Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, etc.).
It also encompasses the development of means so that information can be distributed. For example, technological advances in audiovisual matters.
Actually, when we talk about Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) we are referring to multiple types of changes, on different subjects that are interrelated and have the same objective: to make communication more efficient and provide better access to the treatment of information .
What are the types of Information and Communication Technologies?
First, we can name the advances made in terms of network communication. That is, communication networks .
Just think of the great ability to share information and resources that has been achieved in recent years.
But, in addition, wireless networks, Internet television and the mobile telephone network would also fall into this category. In other words, networks by themselves represent a type of ICT.
Of course, we could not see a development in communications and computer processing without an evolution of the terminals themselves . Both at the hardware level, with Tablets (or the new Smartphones (for example), as well as the operating systems of computer equipment or video devices (high-resolution cameras).
In other words, another type of ICT could be related to the equipment that operates in the networks
Last but not least, the number of services that can be provided through the networks and thanks to the terminals has increased (and continues to increase).
Without the services, the development of the other two elements would not make sense. After all, it is the practical application of this technological advance. But, in addition, services also advance as hardware and networks advance.
Examples of services we can put many, since they do not proliferate constantly. We could name everything from e-commerce to electronic banking.
Today, thanks to Information and Communication Technologies, you can access distance education with a quality unsuspected a few years ago. You also have the ability to manage your finances thanks to Fintech. These are just a few applications.
Thus, Networks, Terminals and Services make up one of the divisions of the most basic types of ICTs.
Why are ICTs important?
Much is said about the concept of ICT, since the pace of development is constant and has the capacity to cause changes in society.
But, is its importance really enough to change our way of living?
The development of hardware (equipment and components), software (applications and services) and connectivity (different types of networks) encourages information to be processed and shared more quickly, with less margin for errors and in greater volumes. The benefits are remarkable and evident.
Being able to automate virtually every task, by itself, makes the world move faster. This includes better development of scientific, creative and industrial processes .
Thanks to the increase in personal and industrial productivity, aspects such as medicine, transportation, education and other matters of the first order in our lives have been favored.
With regard to companies, thanks to ICT, they can adapt to consumer needs quickly. By having more and better quality information, they can make better decisions. In addition, production processes are shortened and it is easier to reach international markets.
In reality, advances in this area reach all areas of society. Aspects such as digitization, automation, image and sound quality to transmit information, networks that allow instant data exchange or the possibility of interaction, are present in all sectors of the economy.
However, the most interesting thing about Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is its continuous development and the wide range of services that arise as a consequence. It is one of the careers with the highest labor insertion and employability has remained at high levels despite the crises experienced.
