Through the incoming and outgoing mobility programmes, both students and professors will be able to live a multicultural experience to and from different parts of the world.

Discover Galicia

We are waiting for you in Galicia, a region located in the northwest of Spain characterized by its safety, far from the mass tourism of famous cities such as Madrid or Barcelona, a land full of beautiful landscapes and friendly people, where the textile giant INDITEX (Zara, Stradivarius, Massimo Dutti…), was born and has its headquarters, a destination that opens the doors to two European countries (Spain and Portugal).

Galicia is the green part of Spain, a destination full of magic where the cost of living is lower than in other well-known cities in Spain and with an excellent quality of life to study, make friends and practice Spanish intensively – if that is your goal.

Galicia is home to 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it is the final point of the pilgrimage on St. James’s Way, the destination where the caravel Pinta arrived on March 1, 1493 to announce to the world the “Discovery of America”.

We are connected to the main European capitals by plane (2 hours to London or Paris) and to Madrid by high-speed train (3.5 hours).

Another advantage of Galicia is its proximity to Portugal, which allows our students to live and get to know two European countries during their stay at UIE. Porto, a world heritage city, is less than 1 hour from Vigo. Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is the European city with the most hours of sunshine and has been chosen in 2022 as the happiest city in the world.

UIE maintains academic agreements with the leading universities in both destinations.

Below we summarize the attractions of the main Galician cities where UIE is located.

Santiago de Compostela

Santiago hosts the seat of government of UIE and is a symbol of knowledge for Europe.

It is the capital of Galicia and was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1985 for being the third holy city of Christian pilgrimage, along with Jerusalem and Rome, noting the tradition that the Apostle Santiago el Mayor was buried there, in whose homage the cathedral was built. The Apostle Santiago is the patron saint of Spain.

A Coruña

The north campus of UIE is located in A Coruña.

A Coruña is home to the Tower of Hercules, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1931 and a World Heritage Site since 2009. The Tower of Hercules is the oldest Roman lighthouse in the world and the only one still in service. The Tower of Hercules is located near Finisterre, the place where the Romans believed the world was ending and has been twinned with the Statue of Liberty since 2008.

A Coruña stands out for the strength of the services sector, start-ups and for being the headquarters of the giant INDITEX.

Vigo, where the UIE south campus is located, is an industrial city.

Its port is Europe’s leader in frozen fish, home to the European Fisheries Agency and multinational companies such as the Nueva Pescanova Group.

In 2021 it was chosen by the Organization of Consumers and Users of Spain as the city with the best quality of life in Spain. .

Its environmental jewel are the Cies Islands, which in 2007 the British newspaper The Guardian chose as the destination for “the best beach in the world“. Today they are candidates for a World Heritage Site.

UIE Experience

UIE is a small university, where you will feel warmly welcomed, where we get to know our students, and you will easily integrate into our big family.

Some of our international students tell you in their own words how they have lived the UIE experience in Galicia:

Before coming

In this section we explain the most important tips to prepare your study trip to Galicia.

All the procedures vary according to whether you have European nationality or if you come from a country outside the EU.

Consult any related questions at:   [email protected]

The necessary procedures are linked to the degree you want to pursue: is it an official degree or not?

All Spanish universities offer official degrees and their own degrees. At UIE we offer our own degrees in executive training (Executive MBA, Executive Masters in areas such as Finance, International Business, etc..). These qualifications do not follow the homologation process required in official qualifications.

All UIE degrees and master’s degrees are official qualifications To take an official degree in Spain, students from outside the EU must “legalize” in their country of origin the documents that show that their training is officially recognized (secondary studies, baccalaureate or degree). Once in Spain they must request the homologation of these studies.

Students from the EU do not require homologation procedures since their studies are valid in all member countries.
